Finger Grooved

Finger Grooved
Finger Grooved
I found stone that looks like an arrowhead. It has grooves that my thumb and finger fit into. Is it valuable?

Haha, something i'd consider keeping. I can't really imagine it.. but it sounds pretty awesome. I wonder if it's a fossil :o Try going to a museum or something when you're free.

Learn How to Type Faster

I haven't been practicing lately so I only top out at about 95wpm (words per minute), but with continued training it is fully possible to kick your typing speed up to 160wpm or even higher. Why am I mentioning these speeds? Because the average person's handwriting speed is somewhere around 25-35wpm where the words are short and speed is at the maximum. I only write 20wpm by pencil so when I'm typing, the advantage is pretty obvious.

Here is how you can learn to type fast:

[1] Learn the Layout

The primary reason why it takes a long time to punch the right key is that you have to find the right button. Memorize the positions of the keys. Be able to close your eyes and visualize every letter, number, and symbol on the keyboard. If you can do that, then when you are typing, you are not searching for the keys but instead pushing them.

[2] Put your hands in the 'Home' position

Notice how the 'F' and 'J' buttons on your keyboard have a special groove on them. Put the index(pointing) finger of your left hand on the 'F' and the three fingers left of the index finger on 'D', 'S', and 'A'. Now put your right hand's index finger on the 'J', and the other three fingers to the right of it on 'K', 'L', and ';'. Rest both of your thumbs on the 'spacebar'. Feel the grooves of the 'F' and 'J' buttons under your index fingers. Your hands are now in the home position. This is the centered position which puts your fingers equally distant to all the keys so that you can type better.

The keyboard was designed to be used this way. The grooves on 'F' and 'J' are there so that you can find the home position without looking at the keyboard. Try it now. Tilt your head upward so that you see the monitor but not the keyboard at all. Now take your hands off of the keyboard. Feel the keyboard with your fingers until you get your index fingers back on the grooves and your other fingers are on the keys described just previously. Practice this several times. You are only tilting your head up temporarily to prevent you from cheating and looking at the keyboard. When you look at the keyboard, you are cheating yourself and losing your own time because you are relying on your eyes finding the key (slow) rather than using your memory to know where the key is (fast).

[3] Practice

Now that you know where to start your hands from and where all of the keys are by memory, you can type without looking at the keyboard. When you get better at typing, and have reaffirmed the positions of the keys into your fingers, you do not even need to look at the monitor to see if you typed the right thing. This frees up your eyes to look at the sheet of paper you are transcribing, to a book you want an excerpt out of, or even the ability to talk to someone while looking at them and taking notes at the same time. The possibilities are endless. However, you cannot expect speed just from thought alone. Your fingers are *not* used to moving in these ways and need practice.

When you are first learning, say the letters of the word you are typing one at a time and concentrate on where you should move which finger to get to it. You should not need to look at the keyboard to do this. If you find it hard to remember the layout of your keyboard, there's a link at the end of this article to a site where you can get a ready-made keyboard layout. Just print it out and follow the included instructions to make it stand upright. This isn't a permanent solution though. It's just for when you're learning it.

Eventually you will want to go entirely by memory. I can recommend two ways to improve your memory of the keys. The first is the way I did it, and that's through TONS of practice. It's not that hard, but it takes some time. The other way, you might be able to accelerate your learning curve by improving your memory first. I've written a book on exactly that topic, memory improvement, and even if it doesn't teach you how to type, it will improve your memory, which eventually will help you with everything in your life, and not just typing. Just look around and you'll see that memory is fundamental to everything you do. For more information about the eBook, see the bottom of this article.

If you choose to wing it for now, what you want to do is to make an effort to store in your mind the positions of the buttons relative to your fingers and their home positions. The intention of remembering often helps, though you will have better results if you improve your memory and practice associating keys to finger positions.

Practice repetetive combinations of certain letters so that you get those committed firmly into memory. A good direction of learning the keys is to go bit by bit. First learn the home keys with your left hand only. When you get good with those four keys, learn exclusively the four keys of your right hand when in home position. Then practice combinations of those 8 keys. Then learn the keys immediately above your left index finger. Then your right index finger. Don't try to overload yourself. This is a new hand-eye coordination exercise that you have never done before, and you are literally causing your brain to wire itself to be able to do this more naturally. You will most likely feel mentally strained, so I would not recommend learning more than 4 new letters at a time. Be patient, you will make many mistakes at first, but as you practice more, your mistakes will decrease and your speed will go up.

Notice your accomplishments and keep going.

[4] How to Measure your Speed

There are two ways to do this, but they're both roughly the same strategy. You can make up a story on the go and type it down, but if you get stuck in creating your story, then your speed will go down. The other way is to get out a book, article, letter, or anything else already written down in front of you and opened. Grab a stopwatch. Open up Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer. Both are word-processing programs and both have word count. You can use any other word processing program, but then you'll need to count the words by hand. Start the stopwatch. Type a length of words. The better and faster you are, the more words you should write. When you finish typing, immediately stop the stopwatch. With your mouse, select on your screen the text you just typed. If you are using Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer, click on the 'Tools' menu, and pick 'Word Count'. Take the number of words you just typed and divide it by the number of seconds it took you to type it. Now multiply this number by 60 to get the number into words per minute. The resulting number is your speed in words per minute.

Would you rather kill a grizzly bear attack with a solid maple guitar or a saxophone?

Would you rather kill a grizzly bear attack with a guitar made of maple solids or a saxophone? Please know why !!!!!! What could be better. Tell us why.

The saxophone, of course. It is a deadly weapon. Especially when you play. poor bear.

The bear was on the edge of the creek, apparently about to enter a salmon after a few who made their way through the water shallow spawning area. If you have already read the story of Christopher Robin Milne, AA Winnie the Pooh, you can imagine for yourself this creature comedy, trying to decide to run over us or away from us. His front legs seem to want to listen to the photographers and their hind legs seemed to want to withdraw. Each time a camera buzzed won hind legs and threw back-Pooh Bear. When the alarm stops, of course, Pooh-Bear says: "Now I can be brave and lights these human beings. "

It would be about three steps forward and then zoom camera that shredded his nerves again. For a moment took these ridiculous antics, then won the battle hind legs, and the bank Pooh-bear jumped to the security of the curve, about 100 feet away, against the current. Our guide spoke in a whisper, "Look at him! There are many fish in this lake, and he makes a catch! The sound of human voice is not a little disturbed. The large creature took a step or two upstream indifferent, suddenly dry wheel, and rushed to the rapid where salmon spawn giant dog. The bear caught salmon in a leg, while the other fish scattered away in terror. A moment later, he lowered his head and took the child to struggle in the mouth, then a casual stroll through the brush to complete meal.

Maybe three or four minutes elapsed. Again out of the woods and came to listen to the other side of the blind. My camera was constantly full, but held the fire to the target at fifty feet, to prepare for emergencies if the animal to approach. The grizzly can see the photographers but refused to be embarrassed. Came straight to a leisurely pace, so I turned off after foot, and our guide through the strange contortions, trying to see my camera. This was not the bear Winnie the Pooh. The guide said in a whisper, his skin was measured at ten feet. Although Brown, who looked more like a grizzly Montana, with a long nose, ugly and unpleasant words, and it lacks that the hump on the shoulders marked.

He was so full of fish that almost dragged his belly. It was obvious that annoyed the camera, but it was too full to do something. At the stalking of a point fifty feet of our blind, then swept the stage at the pace of cameras Zumba, directed, as we have been told, through the mountains to sleep off the results of their greed.

I need games or craft/ holiday projects to do with children age 13 and under.?

I started a community kids club in my volunteer fire and rescue department. I plan events for the kids throught the year with special focus on holiday parties for them. I have a very tight budget and would appreciate any ideas for games or projects for them.

What a great idea!
look online to this website www.orientaltradingcompany.com for some inexpensive items/ideas.

also...Acorn Napkin Rings
acorns
glue
thin cardboard
construction paper
scissors
Cut a piece of cardboard into a 2" by 5" strip. You can use an empty cereal box as the cardboard. Cover the strip with yellow or orange paper. Make the strip into a loop and staple to form the napkin ring. Glue acorns all over the ring (you may need a strong glue or a glue gun(with adult help)). Then cut small green leaves and glue in between the acorns. Let dry and then enjoy on your Thanksgiving table!

Baby-food tea light holder
babyfood jars
tissue paper
paint brushes
glue
Water down some glue and paint onto the babyfood jars. Apply cut-up pieces (about 1cm x 1cm) of tissue paper onto the glue and then paint another coat of glue over the tissue paper. Pop in a tealight candle and you're done!! This is an easy project that kids can do by themselves that also turns out to be of gift-quality.

Candy Cane Hearts
2 Candy Canes
tape
Take two regular sized candy canes (red and white or whatever color you would like to use) and face the curved part of the candy cane towards the other curve of the candy cane to shape as a heart and tape together. You can add these to a card, package, or sign!

Christmas Stars
Cut a sheet of wax paper. Make a star with the glue on the wax paper. THen sprinkle it with glitter. Let it dry on the wax paper for two days, then peel it off and put a ribbon through it and tie a bow. Now you have a simple decoration for the tree.
OR
Glitter Dreidels and Stars
Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap or wax paper. Using the white glue, draw an outline of a dreidel shape or star shape on the paper. Fill in the shape with the glue. Sprinkle the glitter over the entire shape. Let dry (at least 24 hours). The peel off the paper and either stick on a window, or make a small hole and insert a ribbon for hanging!

What Moses Said Unto Aaron When He Was Departing to the Mount?

Many people do not know Allah. This series (1-67) is an attempt to help them to know their Creator.

Verses 7:139-142 of the Noble Quran talk about: 1) Allah has tested the Israelites by Chastisement and  Deliverance, 2) Is Allah biased to favor any nation because of the race, skin color etc?  3) Moses said to the Israelites: Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah? 4) And He also said: the idolatry is in vain and will be destroyed, 5) Has Moses Fasted for 30 days or 40 days? 6) Moses' Fasting was like the Muslims' Fasting and 7) What Moses said unto his brother Aaron when he was departing to the Mount for the communion with Allah?

===========

In the previous article (66), Allah brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came upon a people cleaving in devotion to idols they had, constantly worshipping them.

When the Israelites have seen them (the worshipers of idols) they said unto Moses: ‘O Moses, make for us a god, an idol for us to worship, just as they have gods.’ He said: ‘Truly you are an ignorant folk, for repaying God’s grace to you with what you have said'.  Then Moses continued….

------------

The meaning of verse 7:139

Moses said to the Israelites:

Lo! as for these, their way, their idolatry will be destroyed and all that they are doing of idolatry is in vain, is error.

The meaning of verse 7:140

And Moses said:

Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah?

shall I command you to worship another god when Allah has favored you above all the worlds?, of your time, in the ways He has mentioned in His sayings? through surrender unto Him?

This means that Allah favored the Israelites because they, at that time, deserved that.

However, Allah is not racial, He is not biased to favor any nation or any man over another one because of the race, skin color, shape, height etc.  Allah favors anyone or any folk because of their faith and deeds.

Hence, when Allah favors any folk; this is not absolute but it depends on their faith and deeds.

This law is applicable for any man or any folk whenever they are, wherever they are and whatever they are.

The meaning of verse 7:141

And, remember, when Allah delivered you from Pharaoh’s folk who were inflicting upon you, who were burdening you and making you taste, terrible chastisement, dreadful torment, the worst kind of chastisement, namely, slaughtering your little sons and sparing and using your grown up women.

and therein, in that deliverance or chastisement, was a tremendous trial, either a grace or a tribulation, from your Lord, so will you not heed the admonition and desist from what you are saying?

The meaning of verse 7:142

And Allah appointed for Moses thirty nights, at the end of which Allah would speak to him, after he has fasted during that period; He completed the fast. But when it came to an end, he disliked the bad odor of his mouth and so cleaned his teeth.

Allah then commanded him to fast for another ten nights so that He may speak to him despite the odor in his mouth: as Allah says, and completed them with ten nights.

Thus was the time appointed by his Lord concluded, the time at which Allah had promised him to speak to him, as forty nights;

and Moses said to his brother Aaron, when he was departing to the Mount for the communion with his Lord: ‘Succeed me, be my deputy, over my people, and be righteous, among them with regard to their affair, and do not follow the way of the agents of corruption’, by consenting with them to acts of disobedience.

In other words, the verse says:

And when Allah did appoint for Moses to spend in the mountain thirty nights and added to them ten days and he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights as he promised;

and Moses said unto his brother: Take my place, be my deputy among the people. Do right, enjoin them to do right, and do not follow the way of mischief-makers by committing transgressions.

N.B.: Moses was fasting like the fasting of the Muslims, i.e.  no eating, no drinking, no sex, no evil-doing etc. from about one hour just before sun rise up to the sunset.  This kind of fasting changes the odor of the mouth (for the interested reader, search Google for the fasting in Islam and its significance).  Moses disliked to communicate with Allah while he had such odor!

Verses 7:139-142 in different English translations of the meanings of Arabic Quran:

Verse 7:139

QARIB: that which they are engaged upon shall be shattered and all their works are vain.

SHAKIR: (as to) these, surely that about which they are shall be brought to naught and that which they do is vain

PICKTHAL: lo! as for these, their way will be destroyed and all that they are doing is in vain.

YUSUFALI: "as to these folk,- the cult they are in is (but) a fragment of a ruin, and vain is the (worship) which they practise."

Verse 7:140

QARIB: should i seek any god for you except Allah? he has exalted you above the nations.

SHAKIR: he said: what! shall i seek for you a god other than Allah while he has made you excel (all) created things?

PICKTHAL: he said: shall i seek for you a god other than Allah when he hath favoured you above (all) creatures?

YUSUFALI: he said: "shall i seek for you a god other than the (true) Allah, when it is Allah who hath endowed you with gifts above the nations?"

Verse 7:141

QARIB: and that we saved you from pharaoh's family, who had oppressed you cruelly, putting your sons to death and sparing your women. surely, that was a great trial from your lord. '

SHAKIR: and when we delivered you from firon's people who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your lord

PICKTHAL: and (remember) when we did deliver you from pharaoh's folk who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. that was a tremendous trial from your lord.

YUSUFALI: and remember we rescued you from pharaoh's people, who afflicted you with the worst of penalties, who slew your male children and saved alive your females: in that was a momentous trial from your lord.

Verse 7:142

QARIB: we appointed for moses thirty nights, and we completed them with ten more; so that the appointment with his lord took forty nights. moses said to aaron, his brother: 'take my place among my nation. do what is right and do not follow the path of the corrupt doers. '

SHAKIR: and we appointed with musa a time of thirty nights and completed them with ten (more), so the appointed time of his lord was complete forty nights, and musa said to his brother haroun: take my place among my people, and act well and do not follow the way of the mischief-makers

PICKTHAL: and when we did appoint for moses thirty nights (of solitude), and added to them ten, and he completed the whole time appointed by his lord of forty nights; and moses said unto his brother, aaron: take my place among the people. do right, and follow not the way of mischief-makers.

YUSUFALI: we appointed for moses thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten (more): thus was completed the term (of communion) with his lord, forty nights. and moses had charged his brother aaron (before he went up): "act for me amongst my people: do right, and follow not the way of those who do mischief."
