Boken handle nylon cord on handle what that about?
The cord on the wooden practsie sword has woven cord around the handle that stuff is slippery! Whats that meant to teach you? Can I or should I remove it and replace it? Or (leaving my self wide open here) - do I just need to toughen up? Thanks for your polite responses
Hm .. I once bought a bokuto with a wrapped tsuka for my son but that is purely cosmetic. It is also a money-making scheme for the martial arts weapons industry in my humble opinion.
We found that the wrapping on the tsuka made the 'girth' of the tsuka too wide a fit for my son's hands and thus this led to him holding/handling the bokuto incorrectly. My son is 12 years old (and tall for his age).
I guess that what I'm trying to say is that you can remove the binding if you want to, especially if the binding is causing you to have problems using/handling the bokuto and making your technique 'suffer'.
In my experience, if anyone wants a bokuto with a wrapped tsuka, the tsuka should be 'shaved' to accommodate the binding to make the tsuka more comfortable to hold, especially where technique is concerned.
I hope that I've made sense in my 'spiel'.

4 Battle Weapons Every Ninja Warrior Should Own
The Ninja's are known as extremely skilled warriors and their tactics are highly respected, especially in the Martial Arts Community. It's not hard to concieve why so many people are fond of the Ninja. You even heard about them in Hollywood Movies. If you or one of your friends has an Interest in Battle Weapons of the Ninja, there are 4 main weapons you should take a look at. These have been used for hundreds of years for self defense or as part of your weapons arsenal.
The Shuriken
If you've ever heard of a Throwing Star this is what the Shuriken is. They've been plastered all over our TV Screen in popular Martial Arts Movies. The Shuriken is probably the most popular weapon the Ninja use. Most Shuriken have 4 points that you'll find being sold, however you can also find them occastionally with 8 points. You will usually end up purchasing these in packs of 4, 8 and 12 piece sets. Sometimes the blades on these are sharpened but sometimes they're not.
Sharp Shurikens can either cut or kill the user, for example if they were hit directly in the jugular like you would see in the movies. The best thing to do is buy a target with it and practice. The more you practice the better you will get.
The Nunchakus
Nunchakus are made from two pieces of solid wood joined together by a chain. You will find that some of them are connected with strong nylon cord. When practicing with Nunchakus, you need to be careful. You can give yourself a nice knot on the head if you're not careful. Typically a Martial Artist will hold one piece in thier hand and use the other to swing at their intended target.
One can use the Nunchaku to quickly injure an attacker during a fight. To do this you have to be able to work them fast, and this does take some time to master. This Battle Weapon works the best during close combat.
Katana Sword
The Katana Sword is a single blade sword. It typically has a curved blade. It is one of the deadliest swords ever made and used in combat.
The Sai
The Sai comes in pairs of 2 knows as Sai's. They are rounded with hooks on both sides. These are used to protect the user from getting their hand sliced off from a Sword. They are made of solid steel, are heavy and if struck with one it will really hurt and this weapon can also break bones.

Sword to sword or spear, axe, or something else fighting close combat.
Who is you choice for single combat? I'm thinking maybe Samurai...
For mass combat, I'm thinking maybe Roman Legionnaire (they conquered the world after all)...

No ranged weapons like bows and guns.
Yeah I saw Deadliest Warrior, but thats only single combat, mass combat has different dynamics, and tactics, you cannot do in single combat.
Mass combat in real life is not like what you see on TV.
The best Warriors in History, were reputedly the Spartans. In Ancient Greece, the delicate balance of Power, between city states, was often held by the City that could afford to have the Spartans as Allies. The Elite of the Spartan Army, were units of left handed Swordsmen, who, when in formation, were devastating against normal right handed Warriors. (A tactic also adopted by the early Romans) The Romans Martial success came from having a large disciplined Army, who would all have different functions, and tactics. Take, for instance, the classic Roman Legionary, he was equipped with a large shield, of Wicker, covered with leather, and strengthened with brass. These shields could be locked together, so they could advance against the less disciplined
footsoldiers of their enemies, using their short, stabbing swords, or Gladius to deadly effect. They were also equipped with two or three heavy iron iron spears, or Pilum, which were thrown into the enemy by the ranks behind the Shield wall. These spears were then recovered , as the front ranks moved forward in formation, and thrown again. The Romans were the first civilisation to have a fully paid, well fed standing Army, made up of experienced Veterans, who would have fought all over the Empire. The Army would have been made up from men of all countries in the Empire, who would serve for 15 years, then have the right to become Roman Citizens if they wished, and given Land to farm at the end of their service.
However, the deadliest Warriors that the Romans came up against, were the Gladiators, who led the "Sparticus" slave revolt. The Gladiators were not just any old fighters, they were mostly Slaves, who were
trained, from a young age, day in, day out, every day, to be the deadliest combatants of their age. Imagine the actual amount of combat that a normal Roman Soldier, would actually experience, in a Campaign. Maybe three or four major battles a year, perhaps a week of actual life threatening combat. Compare that, to a top Circus Gladiator, who had, on top of his intensive training in all Gladatorial disciplines, to actually fight for his life, maybe 150 times in a single year, year in, year out, for 10 or even 20 years, such a man would be peerless in hand to hand combat. He would know every trick there was, to give him the edge he needed to survive. He didn't have the luxury of being part of a Legion, with other fighters to rely on, and watch his back, all he had were his wits, and his own skills to keep him alive. So when Sparticus
formed his Army of Rebels, from such men, they ran rings around the Roman Regular Army. The only advantage they had was sheer weight of numbers, and even then, the Rebels were only beaten eventually, when the Sicilian Pirates who were to have provided the Rebels passage out of Italy, were bribed by the Romans to betray the Rebels.
And that just covers Western European Warriors. When you look at other cultures, there were great Warriors from all of them. The Fanaticism of the Samurai, The sheer numbers of Ghenghis Khan's Mongols, the physical
training and superhuman feats of endurance, shown even today, by Shaolin trained Warrior Monks. Why do you think China invaded Tibet? It's largely because the Tibetan Monks had training methods, that produced virtually supernatural Warriors, handy if you have the largest Army in the World, largely made up fanatic, but poorly trained Peasant conscripts...
Even the Afghan Mountain tribes held off the Russian Army for ten years, and they are still holding their own against the British and American Armies to this day. They are directly descended from the remnants of Alexander the Greats Armies, who settled there, after the death of Alexander, and they've been there ever since, unbeaten.

Heavenly Sword Review
Heavenly Sword was expected to be a launch title when the Sony PlayStation 3 made its debut, but that never came to fruition. Instead, Heavenly Sword was delayed until September 2007. The game is a Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive video game. Gamers will be in control of a fairly attractive protagonist named Nariko. The storyline in Heavenly Sword is about Nariko and her father. Her father was killed, and Nariko wants to seek vengeance. In order to avenge her father’s death, she must wield a deadly weapon known as the Heavenly Sword. The plot is your usual tale about revenge and tyranny. It is nothing that we have not seen before and nothing out of the ordinary. I have seen this same storyline in a myriad of other video games. The visuals in Heavenly Sword are stunning. Facial animations entail the entire body, so every part someone’s face looks realistic. All of the environments are drop dead gorgeous. From the ancient architecture to the flora, everything in Heavenly Sword looks splendid. The exemplary presentation of the game does not stop there. The audio in Heavenly Sword is on par with God of War; (though it is not better than God of War) furthermore, the voice acting makes the characters come to life. The gameplay breaks down like this: players have three stances at in their arsenal. One stance is a swift stance that enables you to attack foes quickly. The second stance is a powerful but slow fighting stance. Lastly, there is a ranged stance that allows gamers to hit opponents from a distance. Every stance fits Heavenly Sword well, and they all complement each other. For instance, utilizing a swift stance will eradicate minor enemies. But a power fighting stance might work for a boss. There is also a satisfying counterattack maneuver (ala Assassin’s Creed) that can be executed by pressing a button at the correct moment. When it is done correctly, Nariko will perform a one hit counter attack kill. One flaw with the gameplay is that is devoid of a block button. You can block, however it is completely random and arduous to achieve. You have to match the same fighting stance that your enemies are using. If they use a swift fighting stance, then you have to use a swift fighting stance. One of three colors will radiant around your foes that will accentuate what stance they are utilizing. It seemed like blocking was an afterthought in Heavenly Sword, and the blocking mechanic is a disaster. A great deal of the gameplay is redundant but manages to keep players intrigued. Excluding bosses, most of your opponents are immensely generic looking characters that lack any depth. Speaking of the bosses, they are definitely an attention grabber. Boss fights add some challenge to the game and provide a much needed chance of pace from the repetitive gameplay. Heavenly Sword has its share of contact sensitive moments (ala God of War) that will appease God of War fans. These contact sensitive parts in the game are significantly difficult to accomplish because you are given a limited time to react when the button icons appear. Luckily, the button icons are identical each time (unlike God of War). Without giving too much away, there is one particular puzzle in the game that involves throwing a shield that will make you want to scream at the top of your lungs. Fortunately, the game developers did rectify a majority of the camera blunders in the demo. Many people will be mesmerized with the dazzling martial arts acrobatics in Heavenly Sword; others will be mesmerized with the red-haired beauty named Nariko (I know I was); some will be mesmerized by both. Overall, Heavenly Sword is not as brilliant as God of War. The most vexing aspect of Heavenly Sword has to be the length. The game is over before you know it; moreover, maybe six or seven hours of gameplay from start to finish. The final verdict on Heavenly Sword is that it is good but not a remarkable game.
